Sketch tool does not work

The popup menu does not work, and/or the sketches wont display. What's up with that?

There are several possible problems related to this.

  • The Java Virtual Machine (JM) may be disabled in your Internet Explorer. Go to the Tools menu, choose Internet Options, select the Advanced tab, scroll to 'Microsoft VM' and enable the 'JIT Compiler...' option.
    If you don't have this option in your list, look for 'Java (Sun)' instead, and enable the 'Use Java...' option.
    If neither of these options are present, see point 3 below.
  • Your Internet Explorer may have a security setting which disables the required functionality.
    Go to the Tools menu, choose Internet Options, select the Security tab, select Internet and click Custom Level.
    In the list now presented to you, scroll almost all the way to the bottom, you will see an option "Scripting of Java Applets". This option must be enabled. Click OK and OK to close the windows.
  • You may need to install the Java JRE on your computer. This may be downloaded from java.sun.com. Read the agreement and choose your download based on which operation system you are using.

  • If your company is using a proxy server to access the Internet, your browser must be set up accordingly. (Consult your network administrator before changing any Internet Explorer settings!)
  • Although it seems you can access the Internet fine, certain versions of the Java plugin requires that you manually enters your proxy settings in Explorer.
  • Check theese settings:
    the "Tools" menu -> Internet options -> the "Connections" tab -> LAN settings :
    The "Use a proxy server..." fields must be activated and filled in.
